A lovely day for CHCH Avon's Opening Run and Registration . A good turnout of juniors was lured by the promise of an egg hunt . Only about a dozen seniors though. No doubt people are busy doing work around the house or travelling to Secondary School Champs . Alot of people will opt to register online .One or two might have been doing le Race as well.
Richard Seigne backed up on his hint that he'd do it and posted a superb V45 3 hrs 15 mins
Lutz Beckert's son Max clocked a top Open time of 2 hrs 49 . It was a surprise to see Lutz himself after several years away. He said he had already run to the Sign of the Kiwi and back in the morning but had no problem doing another 90 mins . Another familiar face was Greg Wilson who is running a season in support of son Harrison, who will be joining the juniors.

A Golden Mile race was held for M and F entrants, but the respective world records weren't threatened .
Club President John Ingles gave a rousing welcome address and Craig Eustace spoke to the juniors.Craig stressed that nothing prevents winter running . An objection came from the audience that earthquakes do , but Craig rebutted this by observing that Sept 4 only destroyed the course, not the ability to run.
Thanks to Vic and Sandie who largely handled registrations and food preparation .
Club Captain Rodger Ward is starting a regular Wednesday evening run : 5.45 pm from under the clocktower in the car park of the Harewood Tavern.
It will start this Wednesday, April 4.
envisage the format to be a casual jog down to Nunweek Park, a couple of easy laps, jog back and
maybe a beer.
Later on in the season we would look at doing some intervals, fartlek or drills.Try to support this as often as your schedule and other commitments allow.
Regards,
Rodger

Various Secondary school T&F Champs are being held about now. Not all results have been released .They will be here soon...
OTHER RESULTS - SOUTH ISLAND SECONDARY SCHOOL ATHLETICS - NELSON
Craig writes :
" Whilst we were busy hunting and demolishing chocolate treats, many of our older Juniors were in Nelson representing their schools at the South Island Athletics Champs. CHAV club members had an outstanding weekend collecting a total of 8 GOLD, 14 SILVER and 9 BRONZE medals between them. A WHOPPING 31 medals compared to the 13 we reported this time last year. WELL DONE to all who competed, there are too many great results to list them all here - full results are available on line - but special mention must go to;
Sean Eustace who set a new record in winning the U15 Boys 3000m with a time of 9:09.93.
Tannock Blair who would have set a new record in the U16 Boys 1500m (running faster than the old recrod), but was pipped into second place.
Courtney Ruske who in a brave solo effort missed the record in the Open Girls 2000m Race Walk by just 1 sec. Many people would find it hard to run 2km in 9:30 and Courtney was nearly 4 minutes ahead of second place.

A very hot windy Nor' West day for the Link relay on Saturday 24 March .Quite a good turnout of teams ( mainly Vets and Children ) . CHCH Avon had one adult team there. We called ourselves the' Fifty / Sixties ' because there were two V60 and two V50 men in the team .Turned out to be a fun afternoon and we all ran up to our expectations .
4 km Cross Country course times:
1-John Palmer -17.27
2- Mike Vd Colk- 16.56
3- Chris Florkowski - 20.21
4 - Denis Christmas - 17.39
we were 27 seconds off our predicted team time , but that wasn't good enough to win- the winners were 14 seconds out. We got 7 th fastest team out of 22 . Results - http://www.canterburymastersathletics.org.nz/content.asp?syscmd=dl&ID=C2BA5A4762E5459B973312CC6FBFCA26
