March 26 update.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The summer, such as it was , is drawing to a close and soon it will be 'acorns in Hagley Park'
time again. Opening day / Registration is March 31st at the Club rooms Burnside High from 1.30 pm

Just looked up results from the NZ T&F Champs held on March 23-25 . Could only see four CHCH Avon athletes there - Courteney Ruske who won the 3000m Track Walk in 15.04 .
Well done ...Oh,  she also won the 10,000 m Track Walk in 53.55 for first place too.

Laura Smith ran an 800 m final in 2.15 .28 for fourth spot .Well done too .
Laura also ran the U17 1500 in 4.37 .

Margot Gibson and Lydia Marshall ran in the 1500 m final .Margot was a close 4th in 4.42 with Lydia on 4 seconds behind her for 8 th spot.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A very hot windy Nor' West day for the Link relay on Saturday 24 March .Quite a good turnout of teams ( mainly Vets and Children ) . CHCH Avon had one adult team there. We called ourselves the' Fifty / Sixties ' because there were two V60 and two V50 men in the team .Turned out to be a fun afternoon and we all ran up to our expectations .

4 km Cross Country course times:
1-John Palmer -17.27
2- Mike V dColk- 16.56
3- Chris Florkowski - 20.21
4 - Denis Christmas - 17.39

we were 27 seconds off our predicted team time , but that wasn't  good enough to win- the winners were 14 seconds out.  We got 7 th fastest team out of 22  . Results - http://www.canterburymastersathletics.org.nz/content.asp?syscmd=dl&ID=C2BA5A4762E5459B973312CC6FBFCA26

Dave Holland posted this picture of himself in full flight  after winning the M 50 category in a Brisbane Twighlight 10km race .His time was 38.46 . All those interval sets paid off Dave.
Post race photo at top right . Is that the guy you beat carked out on the grass behind you ?

The final regular track meeting of the summer was at Rawhiti on Saturday March 10th .

Here are some track results from the last three meetings .It was good to actually go out to the New- BrOly grounds and watch the racing, as we had a duty club day ( many thanks to  Anne K , Sue W, John I, Iain and James  who made up the team) .We helped move all the track equipment from the shipping containers into the new shed which has been built near the clubrooms. Along with setting up hurdles etc we did a full afternoon's labour .
It was good to see Courteney Ruske in action on the 3000m walk. She is really looking the goods and powered around the track in a class of her own . Race walkers are so energetic that they get very close to actually running .But we kept an eye on Courteney's feet and deemed there to be a few blades of grass in contact with both shoes . Sam Neighbours was  in the same event and looked to be comfortable at a slower pace .
