"The Shoe Clinic Avalanche Peak Challenge is a true mountain run in every sense.
With razor-backed ridges, snow-capped peaks and huge scree slopes, the 25k run or tramp across the northern tip of the Southern Alps is a challenge not to be missed.
But don't take our word for it... Experience the Avalanche Peak Challenge yourself..."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Seminar on False Starts Disqualification.
"Please find attached information on a starts seminar to be conducted by Wendy Fox-Turnbull on Sunday 26th February. Wendy has recently returned from an IAAF course so is our leading expert on starts and the rules and interpretations – including those around protests.I hope many athletes, coaches, parents and club managers will take the opportunity to hear Wendy speak and to ask questions – particularly leading into our championship time of the season when the rules will be applied in full. Please note I do not anticipate the seminar taking the full time as advertised but am allowing time for plenty of questions and discussion over a light afternoon tea!RegardsAnita SutherlandAthletics Canterbury Sport Development ManagerPhone: 03 387 0975Cell: 027 466 0105 "
Buller Marathon held on 11 Feb . Couldn't see any CHA names in the results in the first third of the results . Dan Reese just missed going under 1.30 in the Half (1.30.03 ) bu**er !
Also heard that Phil Costley narrowly missed Eddie Gray's 1.06 Vet Half M record . Phil won the race outright in a low 1.07 time . He had to run alone, whereas , from memory , Eddie had the advantage of a duel with the leading wheelchair when he ran that great time.

The first of the extra 5 km races was held on Feb 7 th at Hagley park .Everything was the same as for the recent Shoe Clinic series except that all the organisation was done by our club . John Gamblin had the whole thing beautifully organised for the twenty or so volunteers . It was a crash course in learning the jobs ,but we got all the races under way on time . A heavy drizzle came across for about an hour .There were about 30 registered runners and possibly 100 in the fun run . A kids event of approx 1.7 km went off at 5.30 pm.
Nick Rennie won the Mens event in about 15.14 and Nicki McFadzien took out the Women's race in a good time of 17.11. Our own Lydia M came second in 18.33 .
Iain Chinnery was at his best in the cool conditions to clock 19.50 ( not a bad V60 time )
Tannock Blair (15 ) took time off from track to have a go over 5kms and did a nifty 17.19 .
Thanks to Sean Farrell of Shoe Clinic for providing generous spot prizes ( incl $250 pair of shoes)
Nice to see popular running identity Chris Cox at both runs and still going well at just under 19 mins.
The finish mat was set up , so some results will probably appear soon (watch this space )
RESULTS
The second race was held on Tuesday 14th and it was yet another coldish drizzly evening after a rainy wintry day .Conditions were perfect for fast times and Nicki McF (Uni) flew round in 17.01 well beating Ants Rogal in 17.28 . Richard Seigne did 16.48 and Matt Dryden set another PB with 16.12 .
Margot and Lydia cruised around in 18.42 and 18.47 .
results
Another $250 pair of Shoe Clinic shoes was awarded to a lucky fun runner.
Interesting to see how the numbers varied over the two weeks :

The Peter Snell commemorative weekend went well . It was a coolish windy afternoon on the Christ's College grass track . There was coverage of the event on SKY TV. Margot Gibson was in one of the races . ... Nick Willis ran in the handicap 2 miler and came a close second to his USA training mate in about 9.15 .Uni's Andrew Davidson gave the crowd a thrill when the back markers collected him and he fought hard over the final lap .
Results : invitational meeting
Margot , Lydia and Laura S each ran a very good 800m (2.21 , 2.22 and 2.25 resp .)
Dave Catherwood still clocking 2.05 for 800 m.
note -it was impressive to read the details of Snell's week of world records fifty years back in 1962.That 800m he ran still stands as the NZ record (set on grass ) and Nick Willis has as good as given up on beating it (even though he is the third fastest (?) NZ'er over the distance )
