"Club Fund Raiser  - NZ Secondary School X-Country Athletes Disco - Saturday 15 June - St Bedes College
This is a appeal to parents, particularly those who will have children involved in this event, to help set up, run and /or clean up the disco.  This will be a great fundraiser for the club expected to bring in more than $3,000. Details are still being finalised, but we expect the following jobs will need to be filled.  Job sharing is also an option if you can't spare the whole evening.
* Setup - 6pm to 7pm or possibly earlier
* Man the door and coat room - 7pm to 10:30pm
* Issue free water and drinks sales - 7:30pm to 10:00pm
* Supervision and security - 7:00pm to 10:00pm
* Clean up - 10:00pm to 11:00pm
We hope to have a data projector showing the All Black's Test set up in a quiet area of the gym to keep up with that event also.
If you can help please fill out this form ->"  NZSSXC Disco Helpers

2-   CH- CH Avon Club Cross Country Champs -  Saturday May 25 at Rotokohatu Lake .

NEXT SATURDAY 25 MAY - CHAV X-COUNTRY CHAMPS - ROTO KOHATU RESERVE, AIRPORT END OF SAWYERS ARMS ROAD
Meet at 1:45pm for warm up and course inspection.  A new course has been designed this year which will be fully contained on the northern side of the reserve (the side we used to start on). Distances will be slightly reduced in consideration of busy outside racing schedule .
All grades start at 2:30pm.
Winning or just running in your own club champs is a real honour and we have a fantastically challenging course at Roto Kohatu.  There are Club Champion Cups to win for both Boys & Girls in the junior grades: 9 and Under, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15/16.  The cups and also certificates for the first three placegetters in each grade will be presented at the end of season prizegiving.
No pre-entry is required and you don't need to be registered, just turn up and run.  Only financial club members are eligible for cups and certificates.
Grades & Distances (these are the 2012 distances and will probably be slightly reduced this year)
Girls & Boys Grade 13 and under - 2km (1 lap)
Girls & Boys Grades 14, 15/16 - 4km (2 laps)
W17-19, SW, MW - 6km (3 laps)

The Club hosted the Children's Forest Relay on Saturday May 4th .This was set up and
run by volunteers from the club and organised by John Gamblin .Victor Gamperle co-ordinated
 the course marking team .After three years of doing this we have fine-tuned our systems
to make it  trouble free and swift .One improvement would be to retire that noisy metal
wheelbarrow which makes conversation impossible .Results are available on the web .
Here are a few photos from the day .

Race Director makes sure Charlotte and Anna touch.

Thomas Harford leads Margot on Lap 1

Start of teens relay with Margot , Sean and Cameron on the line.

Nick Findlay sets out on Lap 2

These photos seem a bit gloomy because cloud came over the whole sky and blocked direct sunlight , although it didnt get cold .

 The NewB /Olympic 15 km race was held on Saturday 11th  May out at Greendale Lincoln again .
It was a fine clear morning , slightly cool and a light sou'west  breeze came up . There was a good sized field , but not near the heady days of 500 + from the old Rossendale course. The breeze was felt as opposing than assisting  on more parts of the course, and must have affected the leaders because the winning times were a little slower than usual (Callum Moody clocked approx 46.50 ) .Nicki McFadzien ran very strongly to win the Womens section in 52.30 .
Here are Greg Richie and Richard all pretty chuffed after their great runs .This photo also shows the three different singlets still worn by our runners .
(photo kind courtesy of AndreaEl photography ).
Rich Seigne came in just behind Nicki McF in 52 mins 32 with Andrew Reese -Jones about 20 secs back .Greg Bramwell reversed the usual set-up to beat Richie Merrett in about 57 mins 45 -  and he looked good .Rich was about 15 seconds back . Bella Bramwell ran about 1.01 .Robyn Perkins continued her progress with a solid 1.04 .12 .Gary Prest  looked untroubled at 1.11. Full results are available on the race website at http://www.15krace.co.nz

Jane Patterson Cross Country -Saturday 18 May 2013. Good Cross Country conditions with light occasional drizzle and a mild Sou'west airflow over the domain for all the races . The ground wasn't wet enough to get boggy and a lot of people didnt wear spikes .Most of the tricky terrain was on pine needles or sandy tracks where ordinary shoes could grip alright. CHCH Avon had this event as it's duty day and it was a full morning's work for Iain , James , Jingles and me - the course is tortuous and marked the whole way .The Canty trailer's full stock of warratahs and line was used .
As usual the runners started arriving just as you've finished setting up and before long the first race is underway .
We had over seventy runners in the various U 20 grade races and there were some   good results : watching Chris Dryden have to really sprint to win the M14 grade from Hamish Findlay was fun.

The 'Youth Men ' grade had seven CHA runners in the top eleven, and many of them had raced hard at Hagley Park only two days before .Matt Dryden won the Junior Mens grade.

The 'Youth Women ' had a good result with their top finishers (Jessica , Natalie, Julia and Dominique) gaining enough points for second team placing. Jessica Schofield looks to be having a serious season .
Good to see Elise get 3rd placed Junior woman in her first comeback race .

We had no runners in the SM 9 km race - Nick Merrett was to have run but caught a NZ bug on his arrival back from the states .Nick is here for three months and intends to race to keep up his fitness obligations for his college .

Robyn Perkins scored a great second place in the VW 45 grade (in a time faster than the VW 40 winner too ) .Robyn looks well placed to take the Club XC crown next week , but confessed to a bit of anxiety over Emma C's form if she contests the race.
Sandie and Andrea also finished the race .

Our best vet male runners were of course Rich Seigne and Andrew Reese -Jones .Andrew found the jinky course more to his liking and handed Rich a defeat (to reverse last week's result in the 15 km ) .Rich was happy to take out top 50 yr old time though ,while Andrew was a worthy second to Richard Bennett in the M 45 grade. Richie Merrett clocked a good 3 rd place in the M50 grade . Anthony Rogal's withdrawl due to injury robbed the race of some interest.

Others to do well were Rodger Ward who cleaned up the M55 grade within 5 seconds of John Gamblin too ) .I was happy to get 6th place in this grade (and happy to finish a race at all ) . Craig Eustace moved through the ranks a bit during the race. Dave Tyrrel had his first outing of the season and Gary Prest got round the tough course looking fitter than he has  for a few seasons . Victor and Lutz withdrew sick or injured .
Taking the course down is always easier than setting up and it was good to have help from a lot more CHA people than in the morning . It was almost dark by the time I biked back to Papanui - a long day with wet cold feet .

ps  - some late news with Emma Crichton getting 12 th out of over 200 women in the Hanmer Forest Half marathon (1 hr 44 ) .
Rodger also related that his 1.31 at Rotorua was on a gradually climbing road and was said to be 300 m too long .
