This year’s South Island Colgate Games will be held in Invercargill on 11/12/13th January.
This competition is open to all registered CHAV athletes (don’t have to do Saturdays) and is a most enjoyable and worthwhile competition for all young athletes in the 7-14yr age grades.
Club nights (Wed) are attended by all of our club athletes -both those who compete on Saturdays and also those who do Wednesdays only.

Our 5/6yr athletes will belong to our Kiwisport group –where they are taught the basics of running/jumping/throwing.
Athletes do not require uniform for Wednesday nights –but should wear shorts/t-shirt and bring warm clothing with them.
On club nights the 7-14yr. athletes work in groups of 8-10 and on any one night do a combination of 4 events -usually 2 track, 1 field and a coaching session in one of the track and field disciplines.

All track and field age-appropriate children’s events are covered and we encourage the athletes to try at everything –sprints, middle-distance, throws, hurdles, track walk and jumps.
The night begins with a short talk- where I outline the night's events, talk about upcoming events and give out awards.
The children then go to warm-up and then off to their 1st. event of the night.
We are one of the larger clubs in Christchurch - but Club night is well structured and disciplined and everyone has a busy and productive couple of hours.

1st Club night is Wed. 24th September at 5.00pm
We do expect that each family is involved in parent-help on Wednesdays - either weekly or on a rostered basis (usually works out about 3/4 times per season).
At club night -the coaching sessions are taken either by parents who hold a Level 1 coaching certificate -or outside coaches.
On coaching nights we bring in experienced coaches from outside the club.
This year’s Junior CHAV Club Champs will be held at Burnside on Sunday 17th Feb.
This is always a great day with competition in all events in age groupings for certificates and club trophies, spot prizes, sausage sizzle, lolly scramble and our very popular fiercely-contested family relay races!
Mark the date in your diary now –so that your children don’t miss out on one of the best days in our Athletic Season!
All new club members must attend Registration Day –Mon. 24th September from 5.00-6.30pm. in our club rooms in the Burnside High School Playing Fields (access from Greers Rd. beside the tennis courts).
Fees are payable on this day and registration forms need to be filled in and signed by a parent. Note we do not have Eftpos facilities.
We are a large, but well-organised club where every athlete is encouraged to progress at their own pace and to make the best of their athletic talent.
All athletes work on a personal incentive scheme –where they can achieve certificates at 5 different levels.
What we require of the athletes is participation in our club nights -we like athletes to be there as often as possible and to participate fully in the night's proceedings.
We have a fantastic club spirit at CHAV and are very proud of the fact that we have been Christchurch’s Top Club for the past 15 years.
We hope to see many new faces at our club this season.
