Time is running out for us to form a team for National Road Relays (NRR) in Nelson on Oct 6 .There has been some interest in a VM 50 team, but realistically not enough of the 'star ' runners are available to go . We should know what's happening by end of this week , or sooner.
There will be no Senior or Veteran teams to NRR this year. There will be two Junior Mens teams going and they will do well.

We had a rare club run last Saturday .A turn up of five for the run and eight for the pub was a success .It was an unseasonally nice spring day where everything felt good. No worries about cold air on your arms or frozen toes .Thoughts and impulses seemed to arise naturally rather than the result of having to prompt your inner huddling self into having them. After two days of this things returned to normal (cold Nor'easters ) .I know the earth has to move cold air from place to place, but does Christchurch have to be the corridor ??!! Grrrr.
We had an even better club run today (Sat 1 Sept) .Eight runners* did a good hour around the Plantation tracks in warm overcast conditions .Even John Ingles (back from the Olympics) joined in . Eleven went to the Turf Bar on Inwoods Rd to tell porkies . Looking ahead to next Saturday for the Govs Bay 10 km followed by porkie session at Zero coffee bar on Hackthorne.

Results are up for the Timaru Gorges relay . They reduced the course to 5 laps this year and also altered those laps at the last minute due to the heavy rain in the days beforehand . Interesting that a team containing Dave Catherwood and Zach Butler won the A grade .Dave ran Lap 4 which was identical with the old Lap 7 , so it was interesting to trainspot his time compared to a few of our better runners who have done the lap .
Dave did 28.16 .

The Rules Committee of Athletics New Zealand have proposed a number of Regulation (By-Law) changes after feedback following an earlier proposal and after seeking the views of clubs at the Club Connect 2012 Conference in early August.
The changes proposed are significant in that they affect eligibility for championship events and championship age grades.
The protocol for Regulation (By-Law) Changes includes a 50 day period for submissions from all members of the sport. Submissions on these proposed changes will close on 18 October.
Click HERE to go to the web page where details of the proposed changes can be found. It also tells you where to send submissions.
We encourage you to consider these changes, talk about them with your members and provide feedback to the Rules committee through the National Office.
Kind Regards

This year's flu started as a roughish throat and sneezes. Then three days of uncontrolled sneezing and nasal streaming and general misery .Then the sneezing stopped and a very itchy cough started . Slightly fevered head. Then came the greenies stage which lasted about five days , along with the dry itchy cough and whole body feeling irritable and sensitive to contact of any sort . Extra sleep needed. Work and exercise possible but not enjoyable . Nine days so far .If this was the flu that the vaccine was supposed to prevent I wouldn't have wanted to be unprotected .Can't help feeling it's the type that could spring back if recovery is forced .
Opinion piece :
Lance Armstrong's decision was unexpected . The stakes were high and it was thought he would fight on for as long as it took. The news hasn't really settled the question ; but it does mean consequences for Lance : he'll lose seven T de F titles and an Olympic Bronze. All those who think he used drugs will feel more certain of it ; those who think he didn't, have still got a leg to stand on . His capitulation and reasons given for it are a little incommensurate with the fighting character he's known for. But he was a great cyclist and would probably have won those tours if everyone had been 'clean' or otherwise. Increasingly it looks like 'otherwise' was almost endemic during his era . What could he do ? He wanted to win the tour, but you had to take drugs to have a chance . So he did and then had to tell the world he didn't ,and that those who said he did were liars .I don't think that would ever have sat well with him and it's to his credit he's taken this step (though it could be said that's making a virtue of necessity ) . Armstrong wont go down in a lot of people's opinions and it will be interesting to see what time does to his reputation .
As for the Tour , it seems unwinnable now : if you are clean you won't beat the cheats ; if you're a cheat, you'll get caught .
