Rodger will be there and could give a ride if need be.
A friend of his is organising them. Should be fun.

First Cross Country event of the 2012 season was held on Saturday 14 April . Yes the Hagley relay Selection Trial Race .We've seen this event very scarcely attended in past years , but lately it has become a ' must-do ' thing .
The chance to test fitness , renew acquaintances (and rivalries ) and to host Uni Club , all make this an enjoyable run. Tents , sunshine and spectators add to the atmosphere. There are always some new faces around and today a few old ones as well : Dave Catherwood , Robert Holland , Paul Senior (Uni), Gary Prest and Guy Dryden turned up .We welcome one new Vet man , Bruce Webster .
Thanks Iain and James for helping me set up the course .This is a job which must be carried out with some attention because there are many pedantic persons in both clubs who have eidetic recollections of all the exact places the markers go. Even a brazen attempt by the President of Uni to have us incorporate a new deviation he intends to incorporate next week was rejected . We demured in fear of criticism from rank and file CHA members (it is our trial after all ) . As it was, Daniel measured the course as he ran (on his watch ) and announced it to be 4.13 km, which is within spec. So his suggested alterations would have taken record attempts out of the question, so I hope they dont appear next week. As it was there was enough rough ground where all the temporary buildings had been .The grass was also fairly long, so the course offered a solid challenge.
Racing began at 2.30 pm.The Seniors went a minute before all the kids . I'd estimate about 50 runners took off (27 CHA ) . The children and young Juniors ( nearly 70 total ) followed the 2 km course .The kids are being managed by Craig Eustace who has his organisation very well honed .He maintains their added interest by offering confection based performance prizes . Perhaps the Seniors should be lured by alcohol based ones ?
After 13 + minutes of lung-burning exertion it was over : I was beaten by Rodger , Jane and Iain
as usual. John Gamblin was spotted in the crowd : something serious must have prevented him from running*. John Palmer and Denis Christmas showed their old class by making noticeable improvements.
Fastest times probably went to Matt Ingram and Alex Williams (both UNI) . Mind you a few of our faster guys ( Dave C, Matt D and Sean ) wouldn't have been far off . Margot opted for a quiet start to her run, but ramped it up and might have held Alex out (yes she did -15.47 vs 16.15 ) .
Five of the Junior Men ran under 14.10 which is quite impressive.
CHA results were in pdf format which isn't supported by this blog (so I typed them )
*yes John was involved in a bike accident in the morning and was a bit sore.

Each year we gain a few new members, but also lose a few old ones .Running a full season is a fair commitment and people opt to take a year off sometimes .Roanne and Juliet will leave a big gap in the Vet Womens section.... Younger runners often need to leave due to work or education needs. Selena is moving to Dunedin but will continue with her orienteering there.
Anthony Rogal looks to have had a horror run in the NZ Mountain running Champs. He apparently pulled a muscle half way up Mt Campbell somewhere in Motueka and had to limp all the way to the top .The venue was quite remote and his transport out was at the top of the mountain .Hope it's not too serious. Each year we gain a few new members, but also lose a few old ones .Running a full season is a fair commitment and people opt to take a year off sometimes .Roanne and Juliet will leave a big gap in the Vet Womens section.... Iain asks that anyone entering the Wellington Half Marathon in June consider filling in the Teams section . It wont cost any extra and will give the Club a chance at the teams title. Just write 'Christchurch Avon ' . Iain says he knows three of us will be up there , so that only requires one more to form a team.

Those intending to run the Olympic Rossendale 15 km in early May , please note that the venue given in the 2012 Programme is incorrect. The race will be held at Greenpark NOT Greendale . Apologies to Dave Catherwood who was looking forward to watching the racing around his old family farm .

Club Captain Rodger Ward is starting a regular Wednesday evening run : 5.45 pm from under the clocktower in the car park of the Harewood Tavern.
It will start Wednesday, April 4 and carry on all year if numbers build .
envisage the format to be a casual jog down to Nunweek Park, a couple of easy laps, jog back and
maybe a beer.
Later on in the season we would look at doing some intervals, fartlek (speedplay) or drills.
Regards,
Rodger
Try to support this as often as your schedule and other commitments allow.
