New  4 Lane Training Track available -

Many thanks to the team who braved the fierce Easterly tonight to lay the new 4 lane training track on the Jellie Park field.  Please feel free to use it for your training/time trials etc rather than the Burnside School track. Please encourage any other casual runners that you may come across to use Jellie Park rather than the Burnside track.
Many Thanks
Gary " (Wed 23 Oct )

Quite an interesting experience learning how a running track is laid out and marked . Gary has made himself an expert on this . Basically it's a matter of marking two 100m parallel straight lines at 63 m apart .Then joining the same ends of each line with  semicircles ( which will  conveniently be of arc length 100 m ) .The hardware is a tightly stretched tape moved progressively around the curve while assistants make small spray marks on the grass .Extra lanes are created by spraying marks at wider radii .The straights are marked with pegs and tightly stretched metal -weave string .The lines are painted by pushing a trolley which dribbles a mix of white water- based paint and " Round-Up ".Thanks to Iain , James , Kevin and Neil .

Of interest to Half Marathon specialists is that Haile Gebreselassie broke a longstanding record for 40 yr old males . He ran an incredible 61 mins 09 secs . What is also interesting is the old mark (62 .28 ) was held by NZ's own superVet John Campbell . His record stood for 23 years (it was equalled a few years ago )  .Campbell is back in this country after a lucrative spell on the American veteran circuit and is managing a hotel somewhere near Gisborne ?

Haile talented .

Highly talented .

I had an enquiry from the USA about the blog page and after some communication received this message .

"Thanks for getting back to me, Mike.

I want to share with you a resource that I believe would benefit the runners in your association or anyone who enjoys running and who are visiting your site looking for the information. As you probably have experienced, there are often times when you wish you could go out and run a mile or ten, but due to events such as bad weather, football games, family commitments, or just getting out of work late, it’s sometimes impossible to get out of the house and run. Many runners have conveniently turned to treadmills to supplement their outdoor running and so that competitive runners don’t skip a beat during training. Because of this, we have developed a completely free resource to help runners choose the best treadmills for their needs - saving them time and possibly money by providing in-depth guides and expert reviews.

Other running clubs have used our guide for their members as a trusted source of information. You can see a few examples below:

  1. Philadelphia’s Running Club - http://www.phillyrunners.org/links.html - listed as ‘Reviews.com/Treadmills’
  2. Arizona Running Club - http://www.runningarizona.com/links/links.htm - listed as ‘Treadmill Review’’
  3. Kansas City Running Club - http://kansascitysmoke.org/links/ - listed as ‘Treadmill Reviews’
By doing this, these running clubs give their members access to a comprehensive resource. My team, which is composed of researchers and industry experts, dedicated many hours examining and evaluating over 90 different Treadmills. Based on a number of data points, we were able to narrow that list down leaving us with 19 standout Treadmills. Industry expert Andre Ashley and our research team conducted a thorough review of each of those options, evaluating 68 different features. The end result was a data-driven, non-biased rating for each of those treadmills.

You can see the guide, reviews, and ratings here: http://www.reviews.com/treadmills/

Anybody who is in need of a quality Treadmill would be saving a lot of time and energy by using our resource to help guide them as they make an otherwise laborious and, often times, blind decision on buying a treadmill.

Would you consider linking to our work from your site? We would love to see this guide listed on your site for your members to use as a reference. You would be giving the runners in your association access to a resource to help them achieve their running goals.

Thanks for the consideration,

Stella "
