Misc news ( Jun 22nd 2011)

Conditions were cold and windy (said our well -travelled Club Prez ) in Wellington on Sunday 19 June.
He went just to watch the marathon. We had four runners there .
The results show that Robyn Perkins ran a well-judged 3 hrs 38mins for 3rd place in her grade  ..not bad . Read her race report in next article , or here Marathon
Greg Bramwell scored a rare victory over training mate Richie Merrett. Greg did 3 hrs 17 and Richie was 2 minutes behind him. Just ahead of Greg though was another of his running daughters, Annabel* ,whose 3.16 was good enough for 3 rd fastest woman. Julie B was somewhere in the 10 km walk too .
Anton Van Tongeren also did the marathon , posting a handy 3.27 .
Nick Merrett ran in the associated 10 kms to finish in 35.59 for 4th place.
* apparently Bella and Annabel are one and the same person .

In other news , Margot Gibson is now in Europe doing some build-up races before her 1500m in early July. No volcanic ash in the northern hemisphere to interfere with travel this year . We have seen Margot reach to new levels for important occasions before,  and wish her success this time.

Selena Metherell and Laura Wood will also be at International events later in the year: Selena to the World Orienteering Champs and Laura to the World Triathlon Champs in Beijing.

As for the practice of taking sneaky photos (Dave H ) of club officials (me) two pints into trying to coax an ex-member (Dave S) to rejoin the club, I can only say " hope you enjoyed the 5.3 on your walk home "
