Saturday 25 Jun 2011. The biggest unknown in the weeks before Christchurch Avon's hosted race was : will the weather be OK ? This assumed more importance this year because the Sports House was unavailable to us after the earthquakes .In the past this had been our headquarters and shelter from the elements

Wellington Marathon report ( Jun 19th 2011)~ Robyn Perkins
I have a rule about only doing a marathon once. The exception is my home marathon, Christchurch. This year I chose Wellington as my daughter is at university there. The race started at 7.30am. I woke at 5am and chowed down a bagel with cream cheese and jam. I couldn’t tell what the weather was |
Misc news ( Jun 22nd 2011)
Conditions were cold and windy (said our well -travelled Club Prez ) in Wellington on Sunday 19 June.
He went just to watch the marathon. We had four runners there .

SBS Marathon Race report ~ Richard Seigne.
SBS Christchurch (Lincoln) Marathon June 5th 2011
I had a peek of the new Lincoln based course the week before the race and confirmed my suspicions from the map, an exposed, very flat and rather dull course – as long as it’s not windy it should be fine…
15 minutes or so into the race a southerly front hit, wind, rain – “glad I’ve got my long sleeves on” a neighbouring competitor remarked eyeing up my CHAV singlet. In the end running conditions were not as bad as in ‘09 – horizontal sleet, I survived that in a CHAV singlet – the spectators and the Marafun runners probably had the worst of it. read more

Long overdue round-up of the latest news~ Mike V
May 24th 2011- at the recent Canterbury Awards dinner we were pleased to see these two Christchurch Avon athletes recognised for their outstanding efforts :
Courtney Ruske - Walker of the Year
Margot Gibson - Secondary School Non Stadia Athlete of the Year
Well, no-one has taken up the challenge to do these updates so here's a rough summary of the season's news so far .Dave Holland is well established in Brisbane and is exploring all the tracks in the hills near his new home . His repaired knee is holding up . Though he's strictly retired as webmaster , he's going to put up some stuff for us until we sort out how to manage the admin software . Club rules state that you cannot leave a position without providing a successor ! ( setting up this blog probably qualifies ). I am enjoying writing this blog and it's surprisingly ' feature-rich ' for a free site , so send any articles , photos and news to me for publishing.
Anyway, the weather has been oddly warm for May . Lionel Fox (on May 7)
